There is a true craft to creating and editing photographic projects, and then translating them into meaningful and powerful expressions in multimedia. Strong stories must be clearly conceptualized, effectively captured and astutely edited. In this week-long workshop we move through the full course of crafting compelling visual stories.

This is a hands-on week, designed to provide a broad overview of multimedia techniques. To illustrate the possibilities of photography as a source of inspiration and communicative power, Ami shares examples of her own personal projects. She then analyzes and critiques participant’s portfolios, and discusses the art of finding a storyline, gaining access to subjects, and finally, editing the work into a cohesive story.

Our focus is on the concepts and principles of visual storytelling using a variety of mediums. Topics include finding a story, the art of the interview, collecting digital video, sound, stills and then editing them into a cohesive story. Our review discussions cover topics such as finding stories, writing proposals, understanding copyright, securing contracts and model releases, and the business of selling your work.

During the week you document a short story and edit it into a cohesive whole. This workshop is about producing real reportage, getting honest feedback and, ultimately, getting your visual story out there and published.
