I photographed this moving story of hope and resilience for the July/August 2018 issue of AFAR Magazine. It explores Rwanda’s efforts to renew and reestablish itself in the decades following the 1994 genocide. Despite their country’s harrowing past, Rwandans are working hard to rebuild, making concerted efforts to establish a tourism industry, improve the livelihoods of its people and protect the country’s endangered primates.
