The head rhino keeper Zacharia Mutai touches Najin’s horn. She is one of the last two northern white rhinos on the planet at Ol Pejeta Conservancy in northern Kenya. Najin and her daughter Fatu are cared for 24-hours per day, seven days a week by devoted keepers like Zacharia. These men spend more time with these precious rhinos than they do their own families. The bonds are deep and the keepers have a profound understanding of just how precious these last northern white rhinos are. These men have become some of the northern white rhinos closest friends and greatest advocates.

Zacharia and the other northern white rhino keepers are on the front lines, witnessing the tremendous effort being undertaken to revive this ancient species. An extraordinary team from Leibniz Institute for Zoo and Wildlife Research, Avantea, Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Kenya Wildlife Service and Safari Park Dvur Kralove just successfully created five northern white rhino embryos.
